Race Recap: Super Iron Runner Series Virtual Edition 2.0

by Julia Hardy

Welcome to the New Year, Striders!

Most if not all of you might be aware by now that the Super Iron Runner Series looks a little different this year. After last year’s series had to be rapidly converted into a set of virtual runs, the Super Iron Runner Series Committee reimagined this year’s series to include one factor that was not always possible before: flexibility. Participants this year will be allowed to choose the distance they want to run for any of the designated virtual race weekends, so long as that distance is 5K or further.

Runners must register for each of these virtual runs through the calendar on the Merrimack Valley Striders website (Home à MVS Events à Super Iron Runner Series; the links are at the bottom of the page). In addition, to achieve the various Gear Tiers at the end of the year, one of those runs must include a trail run of 5K or further, and one half-marathon distance. Runners are now also allowed to log an additional point for a marathon on an “off” weekend (on which there isn’t a designated run), and a further additional point by posting their distance on their own Facebook page and tagging the MVS Iron Runner account for at least 9 of these runs. To do this, in your post, type the “@” symbol to create the tag, and then type “Mvs Iron Runner”.

The first of these new “Choose Your Distance” virtual runs took place on New Year’s Day. The next in the series is the weekend of February 13th/14th. Coinciding with that weekend is the Virtual Bradford Valentine’s Race, so be sure to register for that if you’re interested!

Further information can be found on the Super Iron Runner Series page on the MVS website.

Wear your MVS gear (singlets especially), be safe, and Happy Striding!
